OpenStack and VM-aware Storage

Building hybrid clouds with OpenStack requires storage for running instances that meets the needs of the applications in terms of performance, manageability and troubleshooting. Traditional enterprise storage arrays still use outdated architectures such as LUNs, volumes, and simple mount points to provide storage for running VMs, and software defined storage provides challenges with suitability for legacy applications and the overhead of maintaining a primary storage solution. Tintri storage solves these problems with storage designed from the ground up for running virtual machines for cloud environments. We will discuss the benefits of using Tintri with OpenStack natively and with VIO, the work we are doing in the community around Cinder, and the importance of VM-aware storage in an OpenStack cloud.
